Biography
Dr. Shiana Montanari is a clarinetist and woodwind private instructor based in Grand County, CO. She currently works for the US Forest Service and serves on the board of Grand Concerts, a nonprofit organization that brings world-class musicians to Grand County. She remains an active performer, regularly appearing with Hijinx Clarinet Quartet, Laissez-Pair, ppp Trio, and as a substitute clarinetist with Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Montanari's solo career includes Guest Artist performances with Creighton University, the Southwest Civic Winds, Wartburg College, and San Juan College. She has also enjoyed performing in various theatrical productions throughout her career, including those with Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Nebraska Community Playhouse, and OmniArts Nebraska. As a chamber musician, she has performed across North America at ICA ClarinetFests, NACWPI National Conferences, ICA Low Clarinet Festivals, CMS Regional Conferences, the American Single Reed Summit, and numerous other professional conferences and music concert series.
Dr. Montanari earned her Doctor of Musical Arts (2020) and Master of Music (2015) degrees in clarinet performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her Bachelor of Arts (2011) degree in clarinet performance from Fort Lewis College. Her teachers include Dr. Diane Barger, Dr. Joshua Mietz, and Dr. Mark Walters on clarinet; Dr. Paul Haar and Dr. Doug Owens on saxophone; and Dr. Tammy Tanner and Allie Movesian on flute.
